Save Our Steel Petition

Attempts by the EU to impose higher tariffs on cheap steel imports into the EU, particularly from China, have been blocked by the Tory government, even though the Chinese have imposed tariffs of 46% on our steel. The US have imposed tariffs of 236% on imported steel, whereas Cameron is preventing proposals to raise EU tariffs from the current 16% levels. This makes no sense and provides an unfair advantage to steel-dumping countries resulting in the decimation of our steel industry. This is about fair trading practices and the Tory government are selling out our steel industry to curry favour with the Chinese government. Only continued pressure and coverage will prevent them from continuing with this course of action.

Trade ministers across Europe will meet on 13 May to consider this issue. We are calling on trade minister Sajid Javid to stop blocking EU proposals to remove the lesser duty rule and allow tariffs to be increased to fair levels.

We want to create a fair and sensibly regulated market and we demand that the government supports our steel industry!

Sign our petition now so we can keep the issue highlighted and maintain pressure on Cameron and the Tory Government to do the right thing!
