It is with great sadness that we report the death on 15th February of our oldest member of the party, John Hood aged 103.  John or “Jack” as he was known, was a lifelong socialist and anti- fascist.  Born on 15th January, 1915 Jack had a great interest in politics at all levels but he was especially fascinated by international events.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of two stalwarts of the Labour Party here in Newcastle.  Ike Williams and Barbara Dodd were both longstanding members of the party, staunch supporters and valued comrades.

Have your say and take the poll to rank the private members bills:
Chris Bryant, the MP for the Rhondda has come top of a ballot to introduce a change to the law through a Private Member’s Bill. There is no guarantee that the Bill he proposes will become law. He will have to argue his case and will need support from other parties. He is not allowed to introduce a Bill which aims to increase taxes or public spending. But he is guaranteed the number one slot in debates in the autumn.

The Path to Power...

Yesterday I took the train from Stoke to attend the second one day event held by Open Labour ( a centre left grouping within the party) the purpose of the one day event was to reflect upon the general election and 'what next' for Labour.

Open Labour was set up by Tom Miller, Alex Sobel M.P and others including my friend Lynn Morris ( Canterbury CLP)and Ann Black of the NEC.

Unfortunately we have to postpone the Keith Starmer event on Thursday. This is due to the delayed Queens's Speech and MPs being whipped to stay late on Thursday for voting on the debate.
We will rebook but this is now likely to be September or October time. Very disappointed but it is a sign of the weak leadership decisions of Theresa May!

Now more than ever we need your help to fight to keep Newcastle Labour. The Labour manifesto continues to be well received and the Tory plans continue to be hugely criticised. We can win this election and need everyone to turn out to support us.

Paul is well respected locally, having helped many people over the years and worked to bring in investment into Newcastle...we can win this election in Newcastle but we need your help!

No doubt the Tory dirty tricks campaign will step in the next week or two, again attacking Jeremy Corbyn and Labour, trying to distract from the terrible and cruel Tory manifesto. We need to be on the door-step fighting back against the lies and distortions and push our vision for Britain. This election is not about Brexit, it is not about Theresa May - it is about building a better, fairer Britain for the many not the few - and only Labour can deliver this!

We can do this!!

We have had a successful week campaigning, completing the delivery of all 43000 of our first leaflet with the fantastic help of all our volunteers. Our Saturday Street Stall was very successful indeed with our policy engagement activity and we will repeat this next Saturday. Thank you again to all our volunteers, regular helpers and new ones plus all the people asking for posters. We are getting the message out that Labour has a great manifesto, full of common sense and creating a real case for change and progress. Next weeks campaigning sessions are listed below:
