Labour retains control of Newcastle Borough Council

lizzie.jpegAt Wednesday night's Borough Council Annual General Meeting Labour retained control of the Borough Council with Labour Group Leader, Lizzie Shenton elected Council Leader by a clear majority of Borough Councillors.

Having retained control of the Council, Labour have confirmed that they will continue to work for all residents in the Borough to deliver excellent services at the lowest cost to residents whilst continuing to campaign for a Living Wage across the Borough and protect Green Spaces that Tory Councillors have put at risk in the past.

Labour and Council Leader, Cllr Lizzie Shenton said: ‘I am delighted that I have been elected to lead Newcastle Borough Council.  With a Tory Government in Whitehall making savage cuts to local services we face a tough year ahead but local people can rest assured that Labour will stand up for them.  This Labour-led Council will always put the needs of local people in Newcastle, Kidsgrove and the villages first.’

Cllr Shenton added:  ‘I would like to thank the Liberal Democrats for putting our communities before Party Politics and agreeing to work with us for the next twelve months.’
