Institute Given a New Lease of Life

A group of villagers led by Labour’s Mike Joynson have set up their own community company to safeguard the future of the Halmer End Institute.

Once established, the company will take over responsibility from the County Council for running and maintaining the building, bowling green and football pitch. Community groups will have a place on the board and have guaranteed use of the building.

Booking fees and income will be used to offset the cost of repairs. Mike said: “The Institute is part of Halmer End’s history, dating back to the 1930s when it was used by local miners.

“By setting up this company we will secure its future for the long term.”
