David Leech, who retired as the Chairman of the Constituency Labour Party in September after 30 years, was honoured on Friday by Jack Dromey former Deputy General Secretary of UNITE and lately the MP for Birmingham Erdington and Shadow Policing Minister.
David's contribution to the Labour Party goes further than his chairmanship of our local party for the last 3 decades, having served as a Staffordshire County Councillor, Newcastle Borough Councillor, Leader of the Borough Council, and also election agent to Paul Farrelly since 2001. following the presentation David gave a moving speech recounting his memories and thoughts of his time in the Labour Party and working for the constituency.
Jack Dromey followed this with a very interesting talk and fielded questions relating to the vote on Syria, issues within the Labour Party and police cuts. Despite having to leave to attend his constituencys' own Christmas party he was kind enough to remain for a few moments for photos and further questions.
The evening continued in good spirits with a fish and chip meals and a quiz trying to recognise politicians from old photos. The winning team were delighted to win prizes , including medals!
This was followed by a hilarious game of Bingo, led by our wonderful Mayor Sandra Hambleton and of course no Labour social evening would be the same without a raffle.
There was an excellent turnout of members and our thanks go to the Holy Trinity Community Centre, especially the dog on the bar who was happy to have a bit of tummy tickling, and to the organising team.
